About
This is the story of a new modern courtesan, or, as most of the world knows her, an escort, or professional companion.
I first became interested in escort work through my studies in human sexuality and, more specifically, the rights of sex workers. As I did research on various aspects of sexuality for my undergraduate degree, I came to understand the world of prostitution, specifically that of the escort, or those who work on the “high end” of sex work. Through meeting and talking with escorts who work in the Miami area, I came to respect the talent, the intelligence, and the respect these women had for the work they do, even if they aren’t completely understood by those outside their world.
If you’d told me a year before I started working that I would one day seek to join that world, I would’ve laughed in your face. But, as we all know, things change from one day to the next. The more I dug into what the work involved, and explored the strong women who’ve written about it and actually live in that world, the more interested I became. When you combine this with my free-thinking on how one should manage their own sexuality and use it in a way that they see fit, it just seems a natural progression to me (and, in fact, to those who know me).
I’ll admit that I was terribly anxious about what I planned to do. It is hard to fight against 20+ years of indoctrination that tells you this kind of work is “bad.” Between the opinion of this work of society at large and all of these “rad feminists” claiming that it is not possible for me to make any decision about my own sexuality without the oppression of “the patriarchy” weighing on me, you’d think no one could rationally make a decision to enter a line of work where one is expected to sexually service others. Of course, it is perfectly acceptable to enter work servicing others for literally anything else on the planet if it doesn’t involve a sexual component. Then, all of the sudden, it becomes taboo.
Well, I don’t subscribe to that ridiculous stupidity. I can, and have, freely made the decision to take this route. I can, and have, freely made the decision to see where this road leads me. I can assure you that no one is “oppressing” me into this line of work. I may get in and enjoy it. I may get in and think it sucks. If I enjoy it, I’ll do it while I am working on my graduate degree and quit. If it sucks too much, I’ll quit and find something else to do. It doesn’t get much freer than that.
I am inviting you to join me because I know there is a tremendous interest in this work, from a variety of angles. With the recent sensationalization of Spitzer’s use of an escort service, to some of the high-profile stories about women like Deborah Jean Palfrey, many people have become aware of the world of the high-end escort and are legitimately curious. I thought, perhaps, some of you might like to see what happens as it happens. Tons of books have been written by women who’ve been in this line of work (notably, only a very small minority have expressed serious negativity toward it), but I don’t think anyone has documented their entry into the work as it happens.

You might want to network with colleagues at http://www.mypinkbook.com/cgi-bin/dcforum2/dcboard.pl An interesting book is The Fair But Frail. You are in an ancient honored profession, the healing arts. Have fun!!
Oh, and keep some secrets, it’s a lot more fun that way.
I take offense to the “rad feminist” comment. Feminism has so many negative connotations. However, feminism represents many varieties of women. In fact, some femminists do fight for the safty and rights of sex workers. I believe you, especially, should take back our word, our movement back. This is about the strength of women from all spectrums of life. Thank you for your consideration and understanding. Please be safe and I hope you learn much in your journey.

Sorry. Radical feminists who believe I am too dense to understand what I’m doing and wish to berate me or what I do are ridiculous. I agree, some feminists do fight for sex workers’ rights. The vast majority don’t, however.
Please be safe and I hope you learn much in your journey.
Thank you.
So what do you plan on doing when you’re 40 years old + ?
I plan to be teaching somewhere, hopefully.
Terrific site. I just saw Camille’s post and I agree… very impressive.
