Yellowstone – Day 7

by Alexa on June 23, 2009 · 7 comments

Our last full day in the Yellowstone area began as we finally left Flagg and headed into Grand Teton National Park.  They are doing construction on the Rockefeller Parkway (the road that connects GTNP and YNP), but it took us less than ten minutes to get through all of it (the night before, it had taken us a good half hour to go through and about the same amount of time to come back).

We were graced with nearly clear skies for the first time on this entire trip.  As we descended into GTNP, the majestic mountains appeared before us in all their glory, with a few wisps of poofy whiteness draped across their middle elevations in many places.  The scene makes for some good photo opportunities.

One of the most common photographs you’ll see from GTNP is that of Mt. Moran shot from the Oxbow Bend of the Snake River.  Here’s my little attempt at it.  The perfect photograph would involve absolutely still water such that the reflection of the mountain appears as a mirror to it.  I don’t know that I’ve ever seen such a photo; there’s always a slight breeze blowing, causing ripples on the surface of the river.  My photo was no different.  Still, I believe the scene is quite impressive.

We headed further into the park, driving up to the summit of Signal Mountain.  From there you have an almost panoramic view of the southern portion of the Tetons, as well as the Jackson The Real Princess Diaries › Edit Post — WordPressHole valley itself (“Hole” is an old western word for “valley,” by the way).

Just as we were coming back down the mountain, we heard traffic on the scanner regarding a bear jam near the Potholes turnout.  By the time we’d gotten to the main road, however, everyone was saying that the bear had gone back into the woods.  But about 30 minutes later, we arrived just in time to see him re-emerge, creating yet another bear jam.  This time, though, we were there to see him as well.

We watched him for about thirty minutes, hoping he’d move closer to the road where we’d get a better shot at photographing him, but he stayed close to the tree line and eventually disappeared into the woods.  So we got back in the car and headed further into the park, electing to take the one-way Jenny Lake Road.  We stopped at the Jenny Lake Overlook where there’s a gorgeous view of the Tetons just across Jenny Lake itself.  Here’s a shot of Mt. Moran taken from the overlook.

We left there and headed to South Jenny Lake Junction, where there’s a general store and a boat dock.  We’d planned to pick up something to eat, then catch a boat across the lake to hike up to Hidden Falls and Observation Point.  However, there wasn’t a single parking place to be had in the huge parking lot.  So we had to regroup and head on back out into the park.  We stopped at the Craig Thomas Visitor Center to check out the exhibits, then headed to Dornan’s for lunch.  We sat up on the top deck and ate pizza right at the foot of the mountains.  With temps in the 70s and mostly sunny skies, it just doesn’t get any better than that in my opinion.

We did overhear some interesting conversations while we were there.  There were two women bicyclists who were clearly flirting with one another, neither caring that everyone was watching them.  It was fun to watch.  I don’t know if they were new to each other or what, but they were clearly into one another.  I’d loved to have been a fly on the wall in the room they ended up after riding all day. :P

There was also a group of four 60-something year olds (two women and two men) eating at the table next to us.  We weren’t paying too much attention to them until we heard one of the women mention something about her vibrator being huge and needing two hands to operate.  Nikki and I just looked at each other like, okay:lol:

We finished eating and then headed toward Jackson to see if we could check into our hotel a bit early.  We were staying at the Homewood Suites on Milward right in the downtown area.  We got checked in and headed up to the room.  It had a nice, luxurious king-sized bed, complete with down comforter, a full-sized bathroom (with a glassed-in shower big enough to accommodate Nikki and I at the same time), television, fireplace, refrigerator, stove, and a microwave.  We felt as if we were in Heaven given the characteristics of the rooms we’d been in for the past week.  We laid down and took a nap, then got up and headed over to the Bunnery for dinner and to pick up some pastries for breakfast the next morning.

After a bit of shopping in the downtown area (all I bought was a new bikini), we returned to the room, took all of our shit out of our suitcases and repacked everything for the trip home on Saturday.  We had plans for the night, so we got dressed in some decent clothes and headed off to the Mangy Moose.  If you read my posts about my ski trip with a client, you’ll recall that I found one of the waitresses, Jessica, quite attractive, and let her know I hoped she’d be around when I got back in June.  I’d called the Moose earlier that evening and they told me Jessica would be working until midnight, so I was quite excited about the possibilities (and, yes, I’ll admit to being a bit nervous as well).

When we showed up about 10:30, I asked to be seated in Jessica’s area, and when she got to our table, she looked at me funny.  “You look familiar.”

“Yes, I do.  I was here a couple of months ago, with a gentleman.  You waited on us, and I spent some time flirting with you.”

“Ahh, yes, you did.  I remember now.  You told me you were coming back.  I see you kept your word.”

“What are you doing when you get off tonight?”

“Planning on going home.  What do you want me to do?”

“Well, I’d like for you to go back to the hotel with us for a bit of fun.”

“Wow, you just don’t beat around the bush, do you?  You didn’t even bother to offer to buy me a drink like everyone else does.”

Gosh, I was embarrassed.  “I’ve always pretty much gone right after what, or who, I wanted.”

Now she was blushing.  “Who’s your friend?”

I introduced Nikki to Jessica, and explained our arrangement vis-a-vis our enjoyment of others sexually.

“Wow.  That’s unique.”

“So, what do you think?  Are you up for a little fun tonight?  Nikki and I are leaving tomorrow morning, and we’d really love to spend some time with you.”

“What would you two like to drink?”

I ordered a diet coke and Nikki ordered a strawberry daiquiri.  Jessica left to get the drinks and came back about three minutes later. Nikki and I discussed the fact that I may have come on too strong.  I tentatively agreed with her.

She came back a short time later, putting our drinks on the table.  “Where are you guys staying?”

“At the Homewood in town.”  Nikki and Jessica kept eye contact with one another, which was incredibly arousing to watch.

“I get off around midnight.  Are you guys going to stick around until then?”

“We can if you are interested.”  She just looked at me for a couple of seconds and then walked off.  The look told me she was indeed interested.

Come midnight, we took Jessica to the hotel with us and spent the next four hours enjoying some time together.  I’ll write that story shortly.  Around 4:30, I drove Jessica back to the Moose to get her car, and then headed back to the hotel.  Our flights left around 8:00 AM, and we needed to take showers, finish packing, get to the airport, turn the car in and get checked in, so there was no time for sleep.  I’m glad we’d taken that nap the day before.

We cleared security and waited for my flight to be called.  I was leaving first.  I gave Nikki a passionate goodbye kiss (I heard a gasp from someone in the crowd, believe it or not) and headed out the door into the cool crisp air, right in front of the Tetons where our vacation had started eight days earlier.  I took one last look at the mountains and headed into the airplane for my trip back to California.  *sigh*

Alexa

I enjoy the sociology and sexual aspects of your blog as do I presume most of your readers. Your passion for passion, life, and writing are apparent in everything you write. I just wanted to write here to tell you that your vacation writing is just as much (possibly even more) fun than the regular content. The pics were excellent also. Thank you for sharing your vacation.

Hi Alexa, I loved reading about your experiences in the parks. I grew up camping in the Tetons (Jenny Lake most of the time) every summer with my family. I think they hold the same place in my heart that Yellowstone holds in yours. I can definitely empathize with you.

I got the chance to show my favorite place in the world to my family for the first time this last August as the last stop of a cross-country (and back) road trip. Sadly, the construction between the parks was still around, but the experience was not diminished.

Cheers!
