As many of you have heard, I will be having eye surgery shortly. I have some scar tissue that is apparently a remnant from a procedure I had done several years ago to remove a rather large floater from my right eye, and the scar is apparently what has been interfering with my vision in a small way for the past few weeks. I went to an optometrist, who referred me to an ophthalmologist, who determined the need for surgical intervention.
I don’t know anyone here in SF, so I was a bit concerned about how to pick out a good surgeon, even with the recommendations of some people here. My mother is a physician in the Philadelphia area, and sought out some recommendations from people she knows and respects in the area. So I’ll be leaving to fly to Philly late tonight (and getting there early Saturday morning – I can’t sleep on airplanes, either, dammit!), spending the weekend with my parents, and seeing the surgeon early next week. I should be able to get scheduled for the outpatient procedure some time during the latter half of next week. Just in time for fireworks! ![]()
As a result, I’ll have to wear an eye patch for a week, and then “take it easy” for about a month afterward. Consequently, I am having to cancel the short trial tour I had planned for Los Angeles and Las Vegas for next week, as well as canceling all my standing appointments with regulars through the end of July. I’ve notified all of them via e-mail, and didn’t want to publish this until I had verified that they all knew. I’ll worry about rescheduling tours and all of that once I heal up and can resume my normal client load.
I’ve got all of my bills taken care of for the next few weeks, Kelsey’s going to look after my apartment, and is taking me to the airport so I don’t have to pay to park my car there for however long. All my shit is packed, including my vibrator and condoms (you never know what kind of trouble I might want to get into in Philly, after all).
I do plan to continue to update the blog and my Tumblrs as I can, so you guys won’t have to worry about any Alexa withdrawal. It’ll be interesting to see how that works using just one eye.
Oh, and before anyone asks, no, I will not be seeing clients in Philadelphia.

Hope everything works out sweety.
HUGS and sending lots of wishes for You!!!
Good luck, Alexa! Contemplating surgery and recovery is never a fun thing. Hang in there.
wow that really sucks, I wish you the best Ok.
I’ll be thinking of you Alexa (so, not a lot of change there then). Any surgery takes it out of you and it can take quite a while to get your normall fitness/energy levels back, so tTake it easy and don’t rush back too soon.
Good luck, take it easy, and heal up fast (and completely). Hugs!
You’re really not seeing customers? But what if I have a pirate fetish and want to see you with the eye patch?
Best of luck, Alexa. I wish you a speedy recovery.
Incidentally, I’m confident that if anyone can, you can make an eye patch totally sexy.
Get well soon. Best wishes for a safe flight, easy surgery and a quick recovery….
Good luck with the eye surgery and the recovery. I’m sure you’ll be up and on your back in no time.
Best of luck wish you a speedy recovery
If I may give you a piece of advice if you prescribed now or ever I would shell out the money for the brand name med as opposed to the generic. The FDA says generics are the same I wouldn’t trust them on that. Note many pharmacies just give you the generic unless you specify you want brand.
My father is on Dilantin (generic Phenytoin); he was taken the generic purchased at CVS (alright) and it worked but his blood levels fluctuated such that he had to alternate between TID (3/day) and QID (4/day). We than switched to Wal-Mart’s pharmacy (EVIL!) next blood draw, taken the Wal-mart generic QID, “none detected” nurse calls for them to rerun the test “none detected” takes a another blood sample sends that one to the lab none detected. Confused she calls his doctor his response “I know exactly what happened they gave him fake meds it has happened to my patients before” and that this is apparently a problem nationwide. Go to Wal-mart to get some real meds the pharmacist says well “not all brands give therapeutic levels”; you know as I’m standing next to the generics med sign saying how they are just as effective. After switching to brand name Dilantin and away from Wall-mart pharmacy his blood levels have of Dilantin remained constant.
The scarcest thing about this is that I doubt Dilantin is the only med that has this problems; at least with Dilantin it standard to take blood draw which will catch the problem; however you don’t take blood draws for most meds so ya… I’d play it better safe than sorry
Anyway, good luck; recover quickly.
Get well soon, but not *too* soon! One of the most difficult parts of surgical recovery is continuing to go easy on things once you start feeling a little bit better. Better to let things heal fully, tedious as it may be.
I wish you the best of luck, and I pray that the procedure go according to plan.
*Gives you a big hug.*
Good luck. Going through your mother for a good surgeon was a smart move. There are many great surgeons in the Philly area at both UPenn and Jefferson.
Sorry to hear about the eye. Hope it gets taken care of properly. I totally understand why you wouldn’t want to see any clients during your visit. Under different circumstances, I’d probably make you an offer, but you need to take it easy and besides, you’ll be staying with your family. You probably don’t want to mix that life with this one anyway.
It is a shame, though. I would have loved the opportunity to meet you.
Thanks for all the well wishes and advice, guys. I really appreciate it.
Not sure about rocking the eye patch, yet, though.
I see the doctor tomorrow morning, and we’ll see what he has to say.
We will all still be waiting here in LA for whenever you are able to visit, no worries! I wish you much luck on the surgery and recovery – I was going to make a similar “pirate role play” joke regarding your eye patch, but someone beat me to the punch, darn it… :)
Eye surgery is a daunting prospect, but I had a cataract op 10 years ago, and am waiting for a new op on the other eye at the moment, and there’s really nothing to worry about. I’ve been seeing through one eye for about 3 months, and while it’s an inconvenience it shouldn’t really hamper your day-to-day life at all.
Good luck and take care.
Best wishes! Now for a bad joke. Obviously, you can’t see clients. However, will you be hearing, smelling, touching and tasting clients in Philly?
Anyway, maybe next time you are here we can meet with you!
well – don’t know of you very long, but I kinda like the way you seem to act, plus I’ve got some girls & ladies within my friendship circle who also had to undergo eye surgery .. they’re all well, nowadays this is an experienced topic and those who work in it know what they’re doing ^^
so wish you well and as U wrote, most important is to heal everything well before going back to “big jumps”
lovely greetings from overdeveloped Central Europe ^^
