Ski Trip – Day 3

by Alexa on February 2, 2009 · 10 comments

I woke up on Wednesday with the knowledge (hope?) that the temperatures would be a bit more conducive to skiing.  The weather folks had promised us highs in the upper teens and lower twenties, which would be warm(?) enough to allow us to get out and enjoy the slopes.  I was hoping this was one of those instances where they were actually right with their forecasts.

We got up and did the breakfast thing again – I opted for the blueberry pancakes for the second day in a row.  We ate quickly and headed back up to the room to change into some cold weather clothes, then headed down to the Ski Concierge to pick out some skis and equipment and get started.

When we got to the SC, they asked me several questions about my skill levels.  Since I hadn’t skied in about three years, I was pretty much still a novice as far as they were concerned.  The woman helping me explained why they selected the skis they did for me, but it all pretty much went right over my head.  She initially gave me some type 1 boots, but I felt as though they were too loose for my liking, and asked to replace them with 2s.  She gave me a gorgeous set of red boots.  I wanted to keep them!  Haha!  Michael took care of our lift tickets while I finished getting my footwear situated.

We put our stuff in some lockers, collected our equipment and headed out the back door of the hotel, right into the ski area.  Our lift was literally right outside the hotel entrance – tough to beat that.    There was a pretty decent snowfall going on, too.  And though it was bit more cloudy than I’d hoped for, it seemed to be perfect conditions for skiing.   I spent a few minutes getting my ski feet back and reorienting myself to how to use the things.  It seemed pretty much like riding a bicycle, actually.

We hopped on the high speed quad lift and took a ride up the hill into the lower Moran Face.  We spent an hour or so practicing on some of the slighter trails around the top of this section – I wanted to make sure I remembered how to stop myself!

After a little while at that, we decided to hit our first serious slope – the Lower Werner.  We skied down it a couple of times without any problem, so we decided to try the Lower Teewinot.  That, too, was somewhat less than difficult.

After taking a break for a bite to eat and doing the LT1 a couple more times, we headed back up on the Teewinot Quad and then caught the Apres Vous Quad up to the South Pass Traverse.  We used the SPT to get over to the middle of Werner trail.  This was was coded for intermediate skiers, so we thought it’d give us a bit of a challenge.  And it did, marginally. After skiing that a couple of times, we elected to go all the way to the top of the Werner Trail,  some 2,200 feet above the base.  We got one really good run down the entire length of Werner and decided to call it a day.  We’d been skiing for hours, and had a *lot* of fun.  The slopes weren’t crowded, and neither of us broke anything, so all in all it was an awesome day.

It felt so incredible to be on the slopes again.  It’d been three years since I’d skied last and I had forgotten how much fun it was.  I didn’t fall at all while I was sking, though it was a bit of a different story when I was just moving around or even standing still.  I fell a couple of times.  Haha!

We headed back to the hotel and turned our equipment in, and then crawled back up to the rooms to rest before going out to dinner.  The Concierge suggested the Snake River Grill as a nice restaurant, so that’s where we elected to go for dinner.  We both dressed up a bit (I was in a really nice black dress) and drove into downtown.  The restaurant was very nice, as was the food.  I had a tenderloin while Michael had the trout.  Personally, I felt the place is a bit over priced given the quality of the food (my main course was $39, high even for Jackson).  Our waiter was a bit, well, pretentious.  Maybe it was just my mood, I don’t know.  Regardless, I doubt I’ll go back with Nikki when we come here this summer.

From there we headed back to Teton Village for a stop at the Mangy Moose.  This place is like, the place you *have* to visit to be considered a true connoisseur of Jackson.  And even with as many times as I’ve been to this area, I’d never been in the Moose.  Michael had a couple of beers and I had a soda.  I wish I hadn’t been here on business – our waitress was gorgeous and I was picking up an “I’m not straight” vibe from her every time she came by to check on us.

At one point I excused myself to take care of some personal business.  Upon my return I stopped her and asked if she thought she’d be working here in June.  She got a puzzled look on her face for a second and said that as far as she knew she’d be here.  She wanted to know why.  “I’ll be back in town then,” was all I said and headed back to the table, not waiting for a reaction.  When she came back to check on us again a few minutes later, she made some small talk, wanting to know what we’d been up to.  Prior to that she really hadn’t spent much personal time with us.  I took that as a positive sign, so the Mangy Moose is on our list of places to visit when we come back this summer.

We finished our drinks and headed back to the hotel.  After spending some time reliving the events of the day, we settled into what turned out to be a two-hour sexual marathon.  Michael has always been one with significant stamina and this evening was no different.  He came three times before we called it a night.

I headed back to my room, took a shower, and began repacking my stuff, as we were due to fly back to San Francisco the following day.  I was *so* not ready for this to be over.  I wish we’d at least had another day to ski.  Regardless, it had been fun.  I called Nikki and told her about the trip, including a mention about Jessica, our waitress.  I spent the rest of the evening in bed, working on e-mails and website stuff while watching the Australian Open.

We got up Thursday morning, ate breakfast, then went back to his room for some more sex in the shower.  We finished our packing and drove around to take in a bit more scenery before we made it to the airport to catch our trip back home.  Surprisingly, both legs of our return flight departed on time and we made it back to San Fran right on schedule.  Make that eleven times Delta has gotten me where I was headed on time. Will wonders never cease?

We got off the plane and went to baggage claim to pick up our luggage.  I gave Michael a nice long kiss and told him to give me a call when he was ready to see me again.  With that, we caught the tram to the parking garage, got in our respective cars and headed home.  All in all the trip was outstanding.  The first full day there wasn’t what we’d planned, but the opportunity to see the incredible scenery there was an acceptable substitute.  I can’t wait to get back to that part of the country for our vacation in June.  :inlove:

I’m pleased to hear that this was such a fun experience for you! Of course I was excited for you but a little hesitant. I always get nervous when you go off and do new things. First you become a courtesan and then start leaving on trips with the guys. You keep me on my toes! :P

I could see that as a good place for that. Thanks. I’m still jealous that you get to live in that gorgeous part of the country. ;-)
