73% of SF Voters Support Prop K.

Proposition K, which would, for all intents and purposes, decriminalize prostitution in San Francisco, enjoys the support of 73% of the city’s voters, according to CNN.  This would be way cool in a great many ways if the polling is accurate and it actually passes.

The 11 million dollars that would be saved from law enforcement going after prostitutes will be redirected towards services for prostitutes.
That’s pretty sweet! Seems like a win-win situation to me.

I’m so excited about this possibility! Still, I’m incredibly offended that when I see news clips dealing with the subject, they always refer to street walkers and drug problems. Do they really think that all working women are hopeless, cheap addicts with abusive pimps? I’d like to see some of that $11m go to the education of “straight” people. Let’s teach them that there are such things as educated escorts and sophisticated sluts. Decriminalization is an awesome first step, but can we get a little respect to go along with that?
